TDI Driver Assigned to Koch Foods

Bio: Larry is a feed delivery driver at Koch Foods in Montgomery AL. He has been with Transport Drivers, Inc. just over 3 months.

Larry is married with 3 children and in his off time he enjoys hunting, fishing, and computers.

On the morning of October 23rd, 2009, at approximately 2:45 AM, Larry was traveling along I 65 north after delivering to one of his customers. Around mile marker 145, he saw a car with its bright lights on.  “As I got closer, I noticed another vehicle upside down on the guardrail.” One more look at the scene and he noticed flames shooting out from under the hood and fender of the disabled vehicle. Larry says, “ I pulled over, turned on my 4 way hazards, set the brake and grabbed the fire extinguisher! Two good bursts from the extinguisher and the fire was out.”

The man who had his bright lights on came over to the wreck and told me he had called 911. Then, we both heard a woman’s voice coming from the wrecked vehicle. Approaching the vehicle, states Larry, “we saw that a woman was trying to crawl out of the broken window. We told her to stay still until EMS personnel arrived.”

“I called dispatch and advised them of my situation. We tried to calm down the injured woman until the ambulance came but she thought the car was going to explode. I told her I had already put out the fire and to be still in case she injured her neck.”

“Once fire and emergency arrived, me and the other gentleman backed off and let them go to work.” Larry then asked the police if he was needed or free to go.  They told him and the other man who stopped that they were free to go.

One thing is for certain --- Larry went above and beyond the call of duty by getting so close the burning vehicle! His efforts most likely saved the woman’s life.
